Programme Notes:
These pieces integrate elements featured in various styles of music I listened to from the mid-1960s to the mid-1980s: passages in octaves, straight triads, repeated quavers, cluster chords, folk-like themes, pedal notes, and chords that take advantage of the piano’s resonance.
The visual artists of this period were also an influence, the direct and vibrant use of disparate elements. Their ability to create a unified work that used such things as text, aphorisms, cut-ups, images from popular media and drawing, I found inspiring.
Music must follow a different logic but these are some things that went through my mind when I was writing this work and which are reflected in the title.
